Dr. Sabrina Kay and After-School All-Stars
In this piece in the Korea Joongang Daily, "We Will Help Your Children's Afterschool Program," Dr. Sabrina Kay explains the benefits of the ASAS-LA. As she explains, it brings innovative, cutting-edge enrichment programs to middle and high school youth that contributes to reducing drug use, crime and violence. ASAS-LA's Leadership Academy provides classes to 160 students in the 6th through 8th grades in programs that include Visual and Performing Arts; Health, Nutrition and Physical Fitness; Leadership; Character Development, and Community Service Learning. As the article explains, Dr. Kay serves as the Chairmain of the board of ASAS-LA, and she is also CEO of Fremont College since 2006. ASAS-LA has grown from 29 after-school program sites to more than 100 sites. ASAS-LA's programs are offered to low income students with funding from state and federal grants through the California Department of Education and corporate sponsors.
